TROOP UPDATES AS OF May 12th – SUMMER CAMP & TROOP MEETINGS (Subject to Change) Updated 5-12-2020 jmc
Due to the cancellation of camp weeks #1 & #2 the troop has moved to week #4. This is July 28th – July 4th. SM Mike Pollard & CR Jim McCarthy have completed reinserting MB classes & activities into week #4. SM Mike Pollard will be contacting a small number of scouts that will required changes to their schedules. Scout families who were planing a July 4th family vacation will be able to pick up their scout from summer camp as early as Thursday evening July 2nd or any time there after, but will need to make arrangements with SM Mike Pollard and complete 2 copies of the early dismissal camp form that can be down loaded from the troop website summer camp page.
Council would like for parents to understand that they can cancel their Scout’s camp attendance ASAP if needed with a NO FEE, but council is also willing to add your scout later if your comfort levels changes. This cancellation requires you to send in writing an e-mail to SM Mike Pollard your intentions to cancel. Make sure you receive a confirmation from Mike. If you were not planning to go to camp or a change in your summer schedule and your scout would like to now attend, we need you decision by May 21st or sooner with your MB selections and payment in full. We have room for those who want to join in the fun!

Merit Badge Day has been moved to May 23 Location Camp Thunder – Mr. Jim McCarthy will be teaching Citizenship in the Nation. Costs $20.00 includes program materials & bring your own lunch. Register by May 19 on the Flint River Council Website.

Summer Camp Fees are $310 plus any misc. merit badge or activity fees are now Past Due for Summer Camp Week #4 June 28th – July 4th. All UMC Churches have been notified by the Bishop that they are not to begin social gatherings until June 22nd for this reason the Troop Court of Honor scheduled for Thursday, May 21st at Cokes Chapel 7:00pm will now be rescheduled till after we return from summer camp. Location, date and time TBD.
CR Jim McCarthy has offered to have Troop Meeting on his back property on upcoming Thursday evenings from 7:00pm – 8:30pm weather permitting. Location: 115 Tanglewood Lane, Sharpsburg, GA Cell #678-939-0399. Our first meeting was a GREAT SUCCESS! Everyone did a great job of social distancing!
Plans for the May 14th troop meeting are to update scouts on any merit badge or activity changes for summer camp; this can also be done by phone if your scout does not attend. Contact SM Mike Pollard for changes. Plans for this week’s meeting are to update everyone’s Scout book and MB requirements on the Scout Book Website. We will be conducting needed Scoutmaster Conferences and Rank Board of Reviews, answering questions for those working towards the Eagle rank and supporting scouts needing scout skill training towards rank advancement for Scout through First Class and merit badge guidance for scouts; First Class and above. SM Sam Young will have his team working with our new scouts on the Tenderfoot physical fitness requirements! Come Ready and Leave Prepared
Remember your chairs, water bottles, Scout Books, Paper & Pens. Face masks and personal protection are up to parents and 6′ social distancing is still enforced. There will be two hand washing stations in the pack field and hand sanitizer station located on a table behind the barn. The Scout uniform will move from field uniform to Class B shirts for all future meetings.
Drivers, please park on the south-side of the street and do your best to stay on pine straw areas. Parking is available on either side of my driveway in the pine straw.
There are “LIMITED” Bathroom facilities available at this location in the coach house.” Scouts can also use the back woods if needed, left down the deer path.
GREAT NEWS FROM BSA NATIONAL: BSA Medical forms ABC from last year will be accepted. Note that on the form C the date of the signature can no later than 18 months from the date of camp. Thus the required Doctor or Nurse Practitioner signature must have the date from February 1st, 2019 or sooner. All Scout and Adult Leader forms are due at the June 6th troop meeting. Please also include a current copy of your medical insurance card both front & back. Cindy Mayclin is coordinating these forms. Remember to give her a copy and keep your original. If you do need a new camp physical, the Summit in Peachtree City off of Hwy 54 is open to complete forms. Call for hours & procedures.
Pre-camp medical testing will be on Saturday June 27th at 9:00am-10:00am at Jim McCarthy’s barn. More info as we get closer. No one can attend or be at camp with a temperature greater than 100-degrees.
We are still trying to make plans for the Troop Swim Test and we will e-mail everyone once we set a date, location and time!

Your troops leadership team is discussing to have a 5-day merit badge day camp & scout skills training at Jim McCarthy’s home in early August. We will need current troop merit badge counselors & senior Scouts to participate to make this a success! Adults interested contact Jim McCarthy directly. Scouts need to get their partial merit badge info in Scout Book so we can help with the incomplete MBs.
